The Mesomorph or Apple
The apple—or the mesomorph—is characterized by an upside down triangle shape. Think about those “fit” folks we typically see in Southern California. This body type is generally more lean and muscular, although if they do gain weight, it tends to be in their upper body. A common belief is that mesomorphs have it made, with strong and athletic builds. This is certainly not always the case. Women, especially, find themselves becoming too bulky too easily.
I recommend an equal combination of cardiovascular exercise and weight training for the mesomorph, which will maintain a good combination of lean muscle mass and body fat. The mesomorph will be able to keep their muscles even longer and remain less bulky by also adding yoga or pilates into their program. The combination of movement, posture and breath control from these two types of exercise can create a less bulky look.
